Taste of Encinitas

The Taste of Encinitas is an amazing annual event where local restaurants, wineries, breweries and vendors participate in offering samples of their specialties to paid participants. This years event was held last night, Aug 31, 2021. It was such a neat event that I must share with you all and hope that you can score tickets for next year!  It is a must do activity for anyone who is a foody.

Tickets went on a sale a couple of months prior to the event date and sold out online quickly. Be sure to follow Tourist on Weekends for reminders when tickets go on sale next year and of course similar events.

The ticket price was $40 this year and included a lanyard with attached card detailing the 20+ food stops and 18 Sip Stops that poured samples of local craft beer, wine, and vodka beverages. In all honesty, I would pay that for nothing in return to support local businesses. But for $40, we got a ton of great food samples and plenty of beverages to enhance the evening! It is also a great way to try out well over a dozen restaurants in one evening. I had not been to the majority of places we tried and I can’t wait to book at every place I tasted for a full meal in the near future.

I will sharing some of my favorite stops as there were too many vendors to detail them all.

The Food

Broad Street Dough Co: Fresh donuts with 40 flavors and they cater to all! They are JSOR certified on the East Coast and certified by LA Kosher on the West Coast. They offer Vegan, dairy free, and gluten free options every day and can accommodate nut allergies as well. They can also customize donuts for special events.

Tratorilla I Trulli: A delectable Italian restaurant with an enchanting ambiance. This is an ideal date night restaurant!

Lotus Cafe: Offers some unique vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes. They provided tasty tofu samples along with mock chicken. It always makes me happy to have non-meat food to try! Great seasoning on the tofu!

Q’ero: Traditional South American & Peruvian restaurant. This place is incredibly flavorful and authentic. I have been coming here for years & it’s a favorite of mine!

Encinitas Fish Shop: They sampled large, spicy and perfect shrimp. It was so good I will be trying to get in this weekend for a full meal. They have 3 locations in San Diego (PB, Encinitas, Point Loma).

Bier Garden Encinitas: Offered mac-n-cheese or their famous pretzels with cheese dipping sauce. So good!

The Drinks

The Caves Wine Shop: is an online store based out of San Diego, California, featuring hand selected wines from wine industry professionals. With a $50 order, they will deliver to your door. This business just started a few months ago. I tried 2 red wines and LOVED them. I just put in my first order. It is equally exciting to support a new local business as it is to get delicious wine delivered to your door. #winning

Carruth Cellars: a popular San Diego winery with 3 locations (Carlsbad Village, Salona Beach, and Little Italy). They offer wine flights, wines by the glass, bottles and of course bottles to purchase for later. They also have a wine club with 3 different club levels all offering discounts on bottles and complimentary tastings. I personally love being able to taste wine before blindly purchasing the unknown. I will probably have to join this as well.

Locals Only Vodka: Ok there is a LOT to love about this company and vodka. The first thing I noticed is the cool VW Bus with taps on the outside pouring delicious vodka drinks. It is a perfect So Cal vibe. Secondly, Locals Only Vodka is a yummy, craft vodka made in Oceanside. Not only is it a great drink, they are environmentally conscious, donating to local environmental charities as well as using an eco-friendly coconut shell charcoal filtration method.  What is not to love about this company? I have officially switched Vodka brands. Here is a list of locations to purchase their vodka.

Goodonya Organic: They offered wine and samples of their home made HYDRATE beverage. They didn’t have food offerings at the event but I have dined here before and love them so I have to give a shout out. In addition to the store,  it is an organic restaurant with a large breakfast + lunch menu with plenty of vegetarian options, as well as for organic carnivores.

Sipwell: had tasty canned sparkling wines. The Sparkling Rose was light and refreshing, a prefect summer beverage. This is another local wine company, founded by 2 females.

In Summary, it was a must-do event. All of the vendors were kind, had delicious offerings and I can not wait to try them all again. #supportlocal
